Bolt action design and technology.

Well, recently, i have been more intrested in bolt action design and the different technoligies in them. Can anyone help on the different types of working (i have heard of "strait pull" oppossed to "regular pull") and what is better for what? Feel free to say anything about the design and function of the bolt systems.

There are books that explain the various types of bolt actions available, though they may be just a bit dated. Here's a link to one of the better ones:

A straight-pull action is like the Swiss K-31, where the bolt handle is pulled straight back, then pushed straight forward to cycle the action.

A 'regular-pull' is one like the 1898 Mauser or M700 Remington, where the bolt handle is lifted up, pulled back, pushed forward, then pushed down to cycle the action. This describes the vast majority of bolt action rifles - the M70 Winchester, Savage 110, M1903 Springfield, Lee-Enfield, etc., etc.

amongst "straight pulls" you even have some variation

You have rotating bolt straight pulls- K31, blazer and mauser m96

tilting block straight pulls- Lee Navy

traditional turnbolt bolt rifles pretty much all operate on the same principal

You also have cock on opening and cock on closing (Mosin Nagant being a cock on opening, and Enfield being a cock on closing design)
