Hello!

It's been a loooong time since I've posted here.
Hope all is well.

I have a question about a bolt action...
I'm probably missing something, but are there ANY new manufacture, U.S. made bolt actions with iron sights on the market? I'm thinking about something in either .308 or .223/5.56.
It seems like they've disappeared.

While I'm at it... I like the Savage Model 10FP. But there's no iron sights, Is it possible to have a smith put some on?

I'll mount a scope at a later date, but want to have I.S. on the rifle. I like them and have always believed in a backup system in case something happens.

Sooooo, can anyone point Me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

This is the one I'm jonesing for, but there are others

Of course that's Czech made. The CZ's have excellent iron sights. There are Marlin and Winchester leverguns with irons, and some Rugers, but their iron sights range in quality from absolute garbage to fair at best. American hunters for the most part have lost the ability to use iron sights. CZ's "American" line of rifles don't even have them, which is a very sad commentary on the state of American marksmanship.

It's a shame. I was just reading a book about Kodiak Island bear huntin over the past 150 years and until the past thirty years virtually all the great hunters used iron sights or at least scoped rifles with backup irons.

To get good quality iron sights in a bolt action, the best route is either to buy one of the CZ "lux" rifles if you can find it stateside or to get a military surplus rifle.

My Savage Model 11GL came from the factory with irons on the barrel. I did have it in mind to change the rear v-notch out for a receiver-mounted aperture but I just kinda threw that one out the window, at least for the time being. Once I painted the front sight flourescent orange, I can see it fine. I just put on a set of see-through mounts and a fixed 4X and I'm gonna try that a while. I have optics and back-up irons.

Savage Model 11 comes in .223, .243 (like mine), .308, and something else. I like mine. It's on the Savage web site and in the Jerry's catalog.

Too true about folks losing the ability to use iron sights. Anyone know of a solid replacement for the folding rear on my Ruger M-77? I plan on keeping my .458 iron sighted as long as I can use them. I prefer PLAIN sights without white diamonds, buckhorns, etc.
