I grew up a very "conservative" kid in mostly insulated "conservative" communities. My life experience has been such that I have shifted "left" on many issues. Gun ownership is not one.
I consider myself an ardent supporter of RKBA...but I also am in favor of progressive political changes.
...so call me a liberal.
That being said, Joe Baegent is a brilliant writer and his analysis (IMHO) of the "mutt people" (as he likes to call his ancestors) is spot on. I have had long talks with folks who are true party-line Democrats about how big of a mistake they have made in regards to private gun ownership. They could, and would, run the table if they truly abandoned it as part of their platform.
Gun control is a DECIDING factor for gun owning voters....to the exclusion of any number of other issues. It costs the Dems big time. Some of them are figuring it out.
