We have an AR15 now, we have a mauser project. I am ordering some books on how to maintain. Amazon has quite a collection and choices.

I'm torn between Gun Digest Book of the AR-15, Vol. 2 and AR 15 Complete Assembly Guide. I'm not a complete novice since I was in the U.S. Army many years ago. When husband brought in the Ar15 I quickly field stripped it, some things you do not forget, even after 30 years. I am downloading the rifle's manual and printing it.

For the mauser Mauser Rifle Disassembly & Reassembly, A Collector's Guide to Military Rifle Disassembly and Reassembly,or Mauser Rifles & Carbines Assembly, Disassembly Manual. I'm leaning toward the second one since it is not just Mauser.

Does anybody have anybody have any suggestions or recommendations.

Also I'm ordering Boston's Gun Bible.

The internet is wonderful, but I have found that details in books, the questions you do not think to ask, are needed.

Thanks to all for the kind help you have given this newbie so far.

I like The Complete AR-15/M16 Sourcebook by Duncan Long.
A lot of interesting information on the history, development, and early variants of the AR and many practical diagrams, instructions on cleaning, operating, disassembly and assembly, and troubleshooting. Very well illustrated.

My edition is 1992, which is fine for me since I have a stock 1977 SP1, but may be out of date for people more interested in modern variations.
Perhaps there is an updated edition.
