Last year I completely took apart each of my guns, down to every little roll pin and spring and so on. There's no good reason, but there's no good reason to know how to replace a rod bearing in a 427, but I consider that fun too :)

In so doing I really wished I'd had a good book or manual that covered the step by step complete teardown and reassembly (in my case, a Colt LE6940).

In any event, I have a book called the "AR-15 Assembly Guide" but its really intended for people building their own AR-15, I guess back when that was a popular thing to do. I'm not thrilled with it, as there aren't many diagrams and a lot of text already assume you know what minute parts are called.

What I'm looking for would be a "shop manual", or perhaps armorer's manual, that shows each any every step of teardown and reassembly and ideally has an exploded diagram or schematic picture for each step.

Can anyone recommend a good reference?

Thanks!
Dave

You can down load, FREE, the Army repair manual. Google this "ARMY TM 9-1005-319-23&P" It's a .pdf file.

Everything anyone needs to know on building and maintaining the AR15. You got to read it! Pay attention to all the side bars and notes.
