All,

As I have started shooting competitively, firearms now have a more prominent place in our home.

I have talked to my kids and taught them the basics of gun safety. I would really like to find a picture book/kids book that goes over gun handling safety to reinforce these rules and then I can introduce my daughter to a rifle (like a Crickett).

Most books I have seen are either for the parents or are geared to the finding of a random gun (Don't tough, walk away, tell an adult). Those are great, but I really want a book that shows proper handling.

We all know education is key, just looking for some good tools!

Thanks all!

One of my favorites, from JPFO:

Then there's the whole NRA "Eddie Eagle" package, which you seem acquanted with. If they're beyond that, I see no problem with going straight to the NRA Basic Firearm Safety book.

Personally, I like to sit down with them to look at "pretty picture" gun and hunting books. And, for gun safety, watching you demonstrate and having them practice safe handling is probably more important than reading about it.

I have a 4 month old girl, and i haven't decided when would be the best time to introduce her to firearms. I want her to not be afraid of it, which is why I'm considering anywhere between 6-10. but input would be helpful.

I handle guns every day, and have never kept them as a "secret" from the kids. My kids grew up seeing me clean and fix and dry-fire guns. If they asked what I was doing, I'd show them.

I think the youngest a kid of mine went to the range was 4 (his older brother was going, and he wanted to come along). It's 4 years later, and I'd advise anyone NOT to violate one of the 4 Rules in his presence, or you will know he noticed.

;)

My oldest daughter is turning 6 in a few weeks. She sees me clean and fix (well attempt) my firearms.

She has come to the store with me and when she saw a pink Crickett I think it dawned on her that girls can use guns too.

We then watched a lot of YouTube videos about kids with Cricketts.

I just ordered Cricketts "My First Rifle" book. I will post a review when I get it.
