Does anyone here carry a knife in there boot or strapped to it ? I got to thinking about it after watching a history channel program where a soldier cut off his parachute with a knife he pulled out of his boot . If you do , what kind , how much did it cost , where did you buy it ? Pictures would also be good . I almost always wear 8" work/hiking boots and thought it might be a good way to carry a knife other than on my belt or in a pocket or just to have a extra knife .

Welcome to THR, Handyman.

Remember to check your local laws to make sure you're not going to run afoul of the authoraties just for carrying a small fixed blade. You probably want to stay away from double edged knives if you intend to carry it every day.

Any small fixed blade should do since you wear 8" boots. Just seach this forum for "fixed blade" and see what meets your fancy.

Yes, I do on occasion. When moonlighting at my part-time second job, I sometimes carry a Kershaw Military boot knife in my...well, my boot.

I asked questions about the Kershaw in this forum a few weeks ago (a search will give the details) and learned that these knives were quality enough for the job.

I always have my Benchmade Stryker on me and usually a P32 in the pocket, but figure a spare knife can't hurt.

I'll second the check of your local laws; just because you might have a CCW that allows you to carry a high capacity handgun on your person concealed doesn't mean you can conceal a knife.

I've heard some try to justify this by explaining that concealed knives with fixed blades longer than 3.5 inches likely "aren't carried for whittling". Well hell, neither is a concealed handgun!

Logic isn't a sheeple strongpoint, go figure.

I don't carry it much anymore, but I have a 3" Brusletto "patch knife" that I made a Sihgn-Dubh (sp) style sheath for. I carried it in my sock/boot for a long time, for when I needed a fixed blade. It was more of a utility blade than a weapon though.

I used to have a Gerber boot dagger (MK something if memory serves) and I tried to carry it on occasion, but it was just too heavy and it threw my walking stride off. That, and it was agin' the law, so I stopped carrying it and sold it off.

The only time that I can see a boot knife being useful in a fight is if you have time to draw it beforehand (premeditation) or if you find yourself flat on your back or in the fetal position being attacked. Even then, the hilt of the knife would need to be exposed so that you could draw it quickly. You wouldn't have time to pull up your pants leg and get to it.

Back in the day when folks wore their pants tucked into their boots, this was not a problem.

While in combat I carry a SOG M16 Mini Pentagon strapped to my boot. It has a secure sheath so it dosent move unless I want it to. Its a double edge design. One edge is razor edged the other is serreated. It is small so I forget it is there unless I really need it.

one shot one kill

I would stay away from boot knives. Only the super uber cool number 1 police are allowed to have anything that might resemble a weapon for defence. I like in-the-boot carry, but for the legality of it I RARELY do it. :barf:
