bore scope

Has anyone here ever seen a home made bore scope?
I would like to be able to see the chamber and lead
on my AR barrel. I know I could just take off the barrel,
put it up next to my eye and look, but I would like to not
have to go to all that work.
Any thoughts?

I have used them for about 44 years now.

They are not a bore-scope, but more then likely anything you can make wouldn't be either.

Real bore-scopes cost several hundred dollars or more and are precision optical instruments.

You shouldn't ever have to take off the barrel on an AR to look through it from the chamber end. Push the take down pin and look. A piece of white paper in front of the muzzle will make it easier to see the inside of the barrel. Or get a regular bore light. They're cheap. Here's one type.

I hear that these are ok, except that the focus does not stay put as it should and moves around as the eyepiece moves freely. I am sure a simple fix should work, like an o-ring or something. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=408004
