I have just used a laserlyte bore-sighter for the first time. I read the directions. They said to find the laser dot at 50 yards and then adjust crosshairs to match. I did this. On two 10/22 rifles my crosshairs after actually shooting both rifles were exactly 6 inches lower than the bull from the laser. Why?

The laser points a straight line out to the target. When a bullet exits the bore gravity kicks in and starts pulling it down.

Bore sighters are only designed to get your scope on paper so you don't have to look for and wonder where your bullets are striking.
Once you're on paper, you still have to shoot groups and adjust your scope accordingly.
