I recently bought my first handgun a Dan Wesson 1911 commander. There is some slight damage on the slide stop the I didn't know about and I had a couple questions.

1.) Is it safe?
2.) Should it be repaired?
3.) Any Idea's how it was damaged?
4.) Would it be repaired under warranty?

This is my first handgun and maybe I'm overreacting... should I just file down the sharp edges and forget about it?

Did the same thing with my Wilson CQB. Dropped the thing coming in the door with too much stuff in my hands. (and no, I don't know why it wasn't in a holster). Sort of forced the slide back past the slide stop. Had to take it to the local gunsmith to get it opened, but since I have had absolutely no problems with it. Several thousand rounds, not a problem.

Of course, it's always a good idea BEFORE you start tinkering with a gun, especially the use of a file, to have it inspected by a qualified gunsmith.

Nice looking piece.

I have the exact same DW CBOB and let me tell you from my experience...

DO NOT SHOOT THAT HANDGUN!!! VERY UNSAFE!! :D

You need to ship it to me and I will dispose of it in the appropriate manner. And I will also pay it to be shipped to me as a favor to you

Nice one for your first 1911! As stated above, file it, and go have fun at the range! :neener:

Thanks everyone! I will file it out and try to shoot it sometime this week, and no I wasn't the one to put the idiot mark on it.
