Have you no shame, Sir? I have 3 586's, one 2.5", one 4" and one 6". None of them was that good of a deal. Heartwarming !

Thanks. It was just luck. Another gunshop, literally down the street, is selling two nickle 586's for $450.00. The shop where I purchased my 586 sells used 686's for about $400.00 and gets it. I guess that nobody wants blued L frames where I live. Their loss and my gain. I'm not usually that lucky when it comes to finding bargains.

Yes you did get a good buy. I have not or looked at buying many handguns in the last year but did pick up a couple lately. Its funny as I used to get some killer deals on firearms threw a few local pawnshops but as they change managers so the prices change. I walked in one about a month ago and put a 92fs Beretta on layaway and took it home about a week ago for $325. While I was there they had a 686 no dash for $275 so I put that one on lay away till next payday. I do not even remember what length barrel it was as I was like I will take it and they put it away. It was between 4" and 6". Will be a early christmas present for myself.
I do remember when they first came out and I was part owner in a shop in south sacramento and we were having problems with the new smiths as they would lock up the gun and we tried to blame it on the ammo as all the 586's and 686's looked fine. Even sent one back and they said it was fine. Now years later I buy one and then read about the problems they had back then and the mods to them. I do not remember mine having the M marked on it but I will check it out when I pick it up.

It's back from the factory.

Well I shipped my 586 to S&W the day after Thanksgiving to have the modification done. Smith paid for the shipping. Since I shipped it on a Friday the factory didn't get it until the following Monday, the 28th of November.

I recieved my letter yesterday informing me that my 586 had arrived safely and that it would be between two and three weeks before I got it back. That was yesterday morning. At 4:00 P.M. yesterday UPS came by my department and delivered my 586 to me. The M has been stamped under the serial number and the new nose and bushing has been installed. Wow! It took one week. I'm impressed.

I have a thirty-three year old Model 49 that needs a tune-up and a refinish. I'm considering shipping it to the factory. Perhaps in the spring. :)

Here is a link to a thread on this forum about a recall that was done on the some of the early 58x and 68x revolvers. Not a safety issue but something you might want to be aware of if you are not already. I had an old 681 and checked it out after learning about this and found that mine had been "modified" and was now a 681-M. Here is the link and you can read for yourself (read the fourth post down from the top):

Oh man those 586s are so so nice... I have been dying to get my hands on a 6 inch one but only find the 4. I know of one I can get right now no dash never fired in 4 inch for 400 bucks. I will wait again and hope that that dream 6 inch comes into my hands like that, nothing like blue and walnut .......
