Well, the gunshow today was worth the wait. I'm glad I opted out on the Entreprise FAL I found earlier in the week.

Today I found a FAL on an Imbel receiver at the Cullman gunshow. I traded my compact EAA Witness and some boot to make the deal. He was asking $390.00 for it when I picked it up. The dealer said it was built from a Century kit on an Imbel receiver. I'm sure it's post ban but I wasn't worried about that. The biggest complaint I have is the funiture is ugly, black synthetic with thumbhole stock. I'll have to find some acceptable wood. The action is smooth and test fired OK when I got home. I've only run 5 rounds through it so I'll have to do an accuracy report later.

Expect lots of questions as I'm a NUBE on FAL rifles.

Check out the FAL files for answers to your questions.

As to the funiture...adding a pistol grip might be problematic. YOu need a certain number of US parts to add one legally, but on the plus side, a US made stock, grip, and forearm count as US parts!

Wood furniture...DSA makes a nice looking European Walnut set, but the handguard's wood is thin and the top of it breaks easily (mine did). I've settled on Penguin synthetic furniture on mine, though you can also get it from DSA.

You'll enjoy that puppy! Not the best on accuracy or trigger, but a fine tool! Impressive handful of black rifle, isn't it? I've had trouble with 'new' FAL mags (failures to feed) but just bought some fine Austrian used mags yesterday so that should be fixed. Another Homeland Defense Rifle goes into service!

if we meet up in nashville again make sure i shoot this puppy before we leave... i've been wondering if a fal would ever have a home in my safe....:D

Yea Id like to pull a few though it...i need another battle rifle.

maybe a mid spring big meet in tenn ;)

Sounds like a decent find. TAPCO is your friend....tons of US parts to make it legal

I will definitely bring my new baby to the next Tenn Mafia shoot I can make. I'll have to buy lots of ammo for sharing. After I get used to the sights I'll definitely have to try it in the Monthly match.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Very Exited!!!!!!!!!!

Is it an inch pattern rifle built on a metric receiver? If so good luck finding an american made stock other than the cheap century stuff, I havn't been able to find any.

That's cool Deputy. I want to shoot it if you can make one of the meetings this year. I've been looking at one of those myself.

Good for you! Finding a FAL for under $400 is a big deal.

As others have suggested, make sure you visit FalFiles and do some investigating.

Keeping the rifle in complaince with 922r is not hard at all, however. You'll find that there are plenty of pieces out there to help you. You'll easily be able to retrofit new furniture on and still be able to stay legal without a problem. You need 7 US made parts, that's all. The FalFiles will list everything you need to be concerned with.

I love my FAL and it always goes with me to the range, regardless of what ever else I bring. I'm really confident in it and, having shot it a lot, I'm very accurate with it off hand with a hasty sling. 100 yard targets don't have a chance, even with open sites. The only reason you might want a scope on it is for shots further than that.

Along with new furniture I will be looking for a new front site. The one on the rifle seems to have been filed on. I don't know why so I'll install a new site and see what I want to do with it.

BTW, FireInTheWhole,

What is a bipod cut barrel??? I'd guess that would be a barrel set up for some kind of factory bipod. I don't think mine is but I may add a bipod after I get new furniture for it.

Scott

A bipod cut barrel has the bipod mounted in front of the gas block on the barrel itself. And a sling swivel in front of that (on my STG 58 anyways) and the bipod folds up to and semi-recessed into the handguards.

Have fun, they're a blast to shoot :D

A tip that you will also find on the FAL files:

To accomodate the butthole stock, the original pistol grip stud has been ground off on your rifle.

I suggest getting a new(well, probably used) inch lower from TAPCO if/when you are ready to do the conversion. They are cheap, and will be less of a headache than re-configuring your existing lower(at least in my humble opinion).

Nice wood Atticus..:D

Nightcrawler: The forearm is from Volunteer Ordnance Works (VOW). The buttstock is the original G1 stock. I ordered a complete set from VOW, but the forearm is about the only piece that fit the gun ..and myself. - so I ended up refinishing the G1 buttstock. Another company (Ironwood??) makes a real nice (but pricey) set. And some of the Israeli wood that Tapco is selling looks pretty good as well.

aerod1, Jim,

It's good to see you online again. I forget your screen name until you remind me who you are. Glad to see you around.
