He had been telling me it was a Smith 66. It is in fact a 686-5 4". It does not have the original grips but instead a set of Pachmayr Grippers. Condition is very good with some minor darkening of the metal on the trigger and the hammer. Otherwise it is very clean and in excellent condition. If I wanted more information, which letters of the serial number would be needed of XXX####? By the way, I got it for 200$ with 2 HKS speed loaders.

Freaking note to self: Get some real grips on this pistol to replace the jerry-rigged pachmayr's not well-designed for this gun.

Give me the first 3 letters of the serial number, and I can give you the year (and possibly the month) of manufacture.
Pachmayr's do suck...IMHO. :D
As you can see, the darkening of the hammer and trigger is normal for MIM parts. It's part of the "hardening" process.

Hay, does your brother have any more guns he would like to sell at those kind of prices. I am always looking and always have CASH.

First three letters are CDM####. Seriously, I think I'm going to throw some wood up on this.

Re: Rubber stocks

Weren't Pachmayr Grippers standard on 686s by late '99? Don't care too much for 'em myself.

Check CDNN, Abilene, Texas, for a wide selection of handgun stocks, at very reasonable prices. They have given excellent and prompt service in the past.

Best of luck,
