Hello,

I just purchased a Taurus 66 6" in matte stainless.

I've read a few posts about hand polishing with Flitz to bring the matte finish to a bright mirror finish. Besides the areas not to polish bright (for reflective sun issues), is there anything wrong with doing this...like mechanically or future rust issues?

Thanks!

There shouldn't be any noticeable difference between the finishes, as far as corrosion is concerned. The microscopic scuffs that give it the matte finish would hold oil, but also moisture. Removing the scuffs by polishing would take away the oil-containing pores, but these pores could no longer retain moisture, either. I would just recommend the same treatment for either finish: Keep it lightly oiled, and in a dry environment.

Thank you.

I picked up Mother's metal/aluminum polish at Walmart and got started. Good heck this is going to take forever. I was convinced nothing was happening but just got some shine coming through after half an hour of hard work.

It is looking great and defiantly worth the effort.

It's definitely a labor of love.
I put a mirror shine on an ESSE Izula knife and it took a good long while.

When I went to refinish a 4566TSW (stainless steel slide) I took it down to a green Scotchbrite pad and called it good. It ended up with a very nice look to it.

Do you have a buffing wheel attachment for a drill? I use that and some rouge compound for polishing various sorts of things (mostly ebonite pipe stems). Might make your project faster.

It takes a little effort but the results with Mother's Mag Polish are totally worth it!
