This is a continuation of the thread I started in the general discussion.

I am going to purchase some BP revolvers for groomsmen gifts for my wedding next June.

Although they will be shot, they will probably not be shot very often. They'll be more for display and occasional fun. So, they don't need to be the best there is, but something acceptable looking and capable of functioning for minor use.

Any suggestions?

My limit will be around $200 or so per revolver. I saw a lot of suggestions regarding Pietta in my previous thread, and their pricing through Cabela's seem good...any opinions of this brand?

Model-wise, I'm looking at the Remington 1858 style BP revolvers.

Cabela's sells some decent looking display boxes, too - but if you know of any revolvers that come in a nice box, feel free to chime in on that, too.

Thanks for any BP advice/guidance you can provide.

P.S. - I live in Illinois, so BP weapons are considered firearms here. That means they must transfer through a dealer if I don't buy them directly from a dealer. I'm aware of that :) Also all of my groomsmen have FOID cards (Illinois' firearm owners identification card).

Sounds like

your on the right track mostly .
For the price you mentioned you want to stay at , Pietta is your only option actaully . There are no Ubertis that cheap , and for good reason , there actions are that much better . There CCh is crap but there trigger pulls are excellent mostly right out of the box . If these guys are shooters they would appreciate Uberti actions more .
The 58 is a great platform for gifts or for anything , good choice and I would second it for the newbee shooter , easy to work with gun .
I read your thread on the other topic already days ago and was going to chime in , but did not . I saw that you considered BP guns , figured it only a matter of time till I saw ya here :D
The only thing your way off on is that your groomsmen will only shoot these occasionally . For the amount of groomsmen your buying for I can just about guarantee it may just change some of thier lives shooting one of these ! They willg et intot he sport, fulltime, drop their modern gun onto Gunbroker and psot here regularilly . For this I thank you beforehand !
Your an awsome friend to them , obviously the feeling is mutual or you wouldn't have thought up such a careing gift . Cheers to ya on that one :D

I think your right on track with the 58 .

Jaeger

PS.. congratulations on your upcomming wedding too , way to go, I hope she is shooter also .

Can I be in yer wedding too? :D

If you want to be real tricky and spend a few more bucks, reproduction 1849 or 1862 pocket model .36 caliber Colt revolvers would make an excellent gift.

Another great option to think about, The cylinders on the 1858s are smooth so you could get them engraved by the places that you typically buy groomsmen gifts from. They can engrave the names and date and such for a probably minimal cost.
These are just slightly over your 200 budget and with an engraved cylinder would make a right nice gift.
5.5" Blued Remington
