how would a basic model bps work for trap shooting i shoot trap
about 200 rounds a month maybe 6 months a year so not a hard core
trap shooter just for fun, I have an 870 express but I like the bps looks
also was looking at an H&R deluxe any opinions. I do have an 11-87 but
I like a pump or break open as the semi ejects shells out I prefer to
just grap my hulls and put in my pouch them reload ans repeat.
Thanks all

A BPS is certainly up to the task, if it fits you well. They make a trap model, which is probably the only "real" trap gun in that price range.

The BPS takes a little time and practice to make single loading a shell dexterously convenient. Other than that, it should make for a decent trap gun. The extra weight of the BPS so many people object to in upland hunting venues should work to your advantage for shooting trap.

Spend the $100-150 extra on the trap version (over the field version). Better yet, find a used one. You could find a used field version and put the Trap stock on it, but unless you get a pretty good price on the used gun, it will be cheaper to just buy the trap model. I've seen the trap stock go for $150-250 on its own.

H&R makes their delux in a trap model. It has gotten some very good reviews. I would suggest you try different guns and see which fits you best.I had a BPS that I used for trap for a short while.During a competition,in my 4th round of targets it shook itself apart. Both action pins fell out and the trigger group came out in my hand.It was an easy fix,and I finished the round ,and the tournament, but I never used that gun in competition again.

The trap version also has the magazine cutoff making loading easier. I have one of the early ones made in 1979. It has well over 50,000 rounds through it and has never had a failure of any kind. Both of my sons used it as well as several club members kids. It is a great gun for the money and a good choice for someone starting trap shooting.
