BPS High Capacity

Anyone? I've been coveting the same gun myself. I'm torn between "converting" one of my lesser pump guns to a HD model or just going with one like this.

Good One

This is a take of the old Browning design of the Ithaca Mod 37.

Good solid shotgun, best feature is the thumb safety on the rreceiver; worst feature, taking the gun down to all parts and trying to get the two metal ribs back into the receiver....you need a third hand! Solution, do not take it down to parts! Does not need it. Just swab the bore and spray Gun Scrubber into the breech then oil it well.

HOME DEFENSE: Needs a shorter barrel ( remember, 18" on barrels and 26" overall length sis the law) but this shotgun is terrific for this work.

Hope this was of help.

AWESOME shotgun.

I have had mine for about 6 weeks. I put an aftermarket Bell & Carlson stock & forearm on it becaus that is what I have on my standard size BPS.

I am a lefty & the bottom eject is great, the rear tang safety is perfect. it has cleaner lines than the 870 or the Mossberg because it does not have a tube extension- the barrel attaches at the end of the one piece mag tube, not in the middle.

I cant think of anything I don't love about it... smooth, solid, clean, perfect.

I do not work for Browning BTW :)

I hunted with a BPS for years and I still have the gun. The only concern I'd have about using one for HD is that IF you short stroke it, you are screwed.

I did this a couple times with my BPS in a layout boat and each time I had to remove the barrel to clear it. The &^^* shell lifter effectively blocks access to the chamber with the shell on it.

Other than that, it's a first class well made gun.

Using the same action design for HD that you are already familiar with from hunting is a good idea IMHO. Don't have any experience with the 'new' Browning HD version but it's about time they brought out a defensive variant of the design.

Good luck with it, hope you never have to use it save in practice and training.

I recently came across the Browning BPS high capacity. I was impressed with how slick the action was, the way it came up to my shoulder so naturally and the clean lines.

Being left handed I like the tang safety and bottom ejection. But, I'm not familiar with the BPS shotgun. From this thread there does appear to be real concerns about clearing the action in a crisis situation and about maintenance generally.

I guess these would be enough doubts for me to want to stick with tried and tested combat/tactical shotguns-- the 870, the 500/590, or the Benelli M series.
