Ted Kennedy recognized the PR goldmine of the media frenzy surrounding the announcement and took the symbolic gesture of ditching his rice car into Poucha pond in front of a delighted Honda Control Inc. crowd.

That was funny as hell.

For a while I actually thought it was real, but then I realized that the good people of the VPC and the Brady Bunch wouldn't do something unsensible like banning racecars.

I just read where FEMA is supporting this measure and will conduct race car confiscations in the event of a natural disaster - the program wil be headed up by NOLA Mayor Nagin.

I'm glad to see that this problem with the ENRCs (Evil Neon Race Cars) is finally being addresed.
The effect these things are having on my 16 year old son is disturbing.

In a related story, the budget of the BATFE&WETGTIBFY (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, & Whatever Else The Government Thinks Is Bad For You) was tripled this morning in order to ramp up their enforcement of the new legislation.

The Bureau's director announced that their highest priority would be any car, truck or SUV with a black paint job. "These lethal assault cars are a menace that needs to be removed from our nation's highways immediately." Also on the Bureau's list are aftermarket accessories such as 'cop-killer' bumpers.

Save the Scions!!

My xC has a wing, cost $18,000 loaded, and has an internal iPod hookup. Perhaps they'll throw me a bone and let me keep the iPod hookup if I make sure the connector is solid and over 18" long?

Maybe we'll get lucky and they won't take a cue from California's Assault Weapons Ban, making two classes of Race Car - the named list, and the features ban. If the features ban goes into effect, there will be a lot of ticked off Taurus owners.

And what about fins? They helped make an entire generation of cars more deadly.

Also, how will this be enforced? If your pre-ban car is registered, will the authorities be able to stop you and ask for your papers? It's another useless law.

So what if I'm driving a brand new Ferrari. You can't prove I didn't own it before the ban!

Hehehe. Glad to see that a HighRoader came up with this. Funny stuff.

I agree, Civics are entirely too fast. Why, just the other day one almost caught up to my pickup truck.
I hate it when that happens.

Not long ago one took off from a stoplight like I was sitting still. Stickers galore, lighted washer nozzles, levitation lights, and a lighted, 6" tailpipe. The worst part is that my truck had 1,053 cubic inches of detroit muscle in it. Since it obviously wasnt doing me any good, I dropped 702 cubes of it off in a storage spot.

Today they came for my Gremlin and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Put a 401 in it. You might not be able to outrun them, but the shock factor alone should last long enough to get a heck of a lead (I've seen it!).

Oh Lordy--since my Toyota Matrix is built on a Corolla frame---I'm going to be illegal!?!?!? :what: Awwwwwwww shucks! :banghead:

This is so funny and I love the sarcasm.

My Lowered, Bored Out, 1969 Karmann Ghia.

Dude--you are stupid for going on the internet and admitting you own one of those.
I am almost sure those were banned by the "68 CCA (car control act).
I'd bury that in a PCV tube if I were you.

Very funny, but a rice burner which will outrun a properly equiped Mustang is a rare thing.

Okay, so my '80s Firebird'll have to have just enough very dark gray added to the mix to make it look black, while not actually being so (or maybe just paint everything below the swage line silver--it looked good on TV, anyway... Hmm... pre-ban 24-gallon fuel cell, high-MPG drivetrain built from pre-ban parts... oh, and a high-power mainframe computer in the trunk to run the new computerized control system and all the traffic-data systems, comms and fuzzbusters. We won't even discuss the gun rack and its contents...

And you'll see the GoodGuys types saying, "This is only reasonable, they're not gunning for our Rod & Custom '34 Fords..."

Free men don't ask for or need permission.--source unknown

Don't get me started, automotive laws are almost as insane as gun laws. You know it's illegal to try to be environmentally-conscious by retrofitting a catalytic converter onto a vehicle that doesn't have one? Not to mention all the crap of California's emission standards, which it sounds like the entire Left Coast has adopted...

I'm not sure whether to be amused or pained by this very pointed and on-the-money view of the situation involving two of my interests...

In preparation of the approaching ban, I mean necessary legislation, I bought two motorcycles... off paper. They are now buried in the garage under kayaks, tarps, fishing gear, and a life-size Elvis doll.

I got one for on-road running and one for off-road hiding. I'm set. Come and get me, Agent Suckatailpipe.:neener:

It should also be illegal to leave these horrid race cars where thay are readily available to minors. And gas pedal locks should be mandatory. Also, they should raise the legal age to purchase a compact car to 21.

I was also very disturbed to see that A.U.V.s (Assault Utility Vehicles) like H1s and Jeeps were not addressed. To think these things are out there on the streets...
