Just picked up my brand new Remington 870 Supermag. Only problem that I didnt notice when I was checking it out was that sometimes the extractor will cause the slide to not lock up correctly or at all.

It seems the extractor finds its way UNDER the chamber wall, instead of ramping over it like it should on an empty chamber, and this binds up the slide, keeping it from locking up.

Has anyone ever encountered this before or have any suggestions or solutions? I'll try and post pictures when I get home, currently I am on a train heading toward NYC.

Well, it's either the bolt is machined wrong or the extractor is machined wrong. I have seen this twice before. Once on a circa 1970 Wingmaster with like a gazillion rounds thru it, and the other was a lightly used Express a few years ago. New extractor fixed the Wingmaster, and Remington sent the guy with the Express a new complete bolt.

1-800-243-9700, yes. They should be able to tell you whether to return the shotgun to the original sales location, where the nearest factory warranty station is to you, or provide you with a shipping label to send the shotgun in for repair.

Update:

I was playing with it today and found a heuristic: It only locks up when the extractor has to fight gravity. It noticed it because I was tilting the gun to check the chamber, and thats when it happened. If I hold it upright, it doesnt lock up.

Pics of what its doing to my barrel:
