I'm getting pretty bummed about losing 2 out of 10 brass in the rough when shooting. Has anybody ever tried a brass catcher and if so what kind? I typically shoot 40 S&W. Yesterday I cut a piece of cardboard to hold and it knocked the brass down to my feet but still lost a few. And yes as I told my wife, "i cleaned my glasses":)

I haven't actually tried it yet, but I bought one of these "screen tent" picnic things, to help contain the flying brass, they're pretty cheap and you can find them on sale. My club's range is all flat dirt, so brass is easy to find, but I was also interested in having a nice shady place to shoot from, with a little wind reduction and insect protection too. Mine doesn't have a floor in it, but a lot of them do. My plan is to just set it up over a couple shooting benches and go to town.

Just a thought.

I use a fish landing net attached to forward bench at our range. Catches 99% of brass and is adjustable for heigth and angle. Cost of net at local big box store $12.00

I made a brass catcher. Just used some 1X2 to make a frame about 24"X18" and used some fiberglass screen to make a net on the frame. Then I attach the frame to a camera tripod. Pretty simple, I just stand with the pistol right next to the frame opening and all the brass falls into the screen. When I'm done I just scoop it out and put it in an empty ammo can, don't even have to bend down anymore. It's damn near 100% effective too. I have maybe one or two pieces of brass out of 500 or 600 pop out and land at my feet. Works with my G30, TZ-75, P-11, 1911, 3904. My P-3AT and P-32 spit the brass up and back, so it's a no go for those.

I have oe of the ones that goes on your palm of your wrist from midway. It does pretty good, maybe 95% recovery. I have a CMM expensive one. With 45 acp it is 100%, with 380 auto it is more like 70%. I have tried the tarp route, but too much lossage.

Good luck in finding a solution. Nothing is perfect and all are somewhat gun and caliber dependent.

I too hang fish net up with spring loaded carpenter clamps. I went with the net so I can see the other shooters down the line and my Rangemaster. When shooting a semi auto, who wouldn't beleive how many shooters thank you for doing that so you are not chucking brass on them. One guy did a tarp, and the Rangemaster made him take it down due to the visibility - safety issue.
