Brass shotgun shells

Once upon a time, like pre 1900, all shotgun shells were brass from top to bottom. Shotguns had extractors, not ejectors, so the things wouldn't get dinged bouncing off rocks and so forth.
They needed washing after use to remove the BP fouling.
These days, it's mostly CAS that sees these used. The Vintagers use some also.
The only use I've done with them in 50 years of gunning has been some military 00 around 1970. The stuff was made up in WWII for jungle use, paper shells not handling high humidity as well.
Some currently offered by Midway et all use primers other than standard shotgun primers.
Modern plastic hulls are excellent. Unless there's a craving for doing it like our 19th Century forebearers, skip the brass.

When I was in the military (65-69, yes I'm old) we still had a lot of brass cased shotgun shells.(00 Buck). We had Winchester Mod 12s with the lug, heatshield and
16" bayonets to use for riots/crowd control. About once every 3-4 months they would get us all decked out in our gear with the 12s/bayonets for training. I got to shoot up quite a few of the brass shells. I'd sure love to have one of those Winchesters. IIRC, we had about 50 in the armory,(George AFB CA). I wonder if they chopped them up?

Both the M-97 & M-12 trench guns were fitted with the M1917 bayonet as used on the 1917 Enfield rifle.

In 1969, I was working for the phone company in Victorville, CA, and we completely reworked the phone system in the tower at George AFB. It was a busy place at that time.
As for brass shotgun shells, I've still got a few of the military all brass 00 buck loads. At one time, I had a full case of them, but shot most up and traded away the rest. As mentioned, the military used them because they didn't swell up in tropical climates.
I now see the MagTech brass shells at the SASS matches for the guys and gals shooting blackpowder in their double barrel coach guns.
