Brazilian Mauser questions

When i was 14 my mom and stepdad got me this rifle for xmas. i saw it at the gunshop, tag read "Brazilian Mauser .308 unfired" with the price under all of that. I havnt been able to find ANY information on these rifles outside of only having seen one similar to it on gunbroker last year. the wood is clean and the numbers match. it looks like it was parkerized as the finish is almost a grey/green color. bore is great, and when we took it out to shoot the 1st time about 9 years ago, the bolt had too much grease in it to ignite the primer. im really just curious if this IS a brazilian mauser, most i have seen a 30-06 and dont have a finish like this. if its not a brazilian mauser, what is it? anyway. i can get pics if they are needed. hell, ill probably put them up later just to do it. the serial is 4 digits has a "B" before it and a "B" in a circle after it. says "MOD. 1908." on the right hand side, and reads "DEUTCHE WAFFEN-UND" on the top and just below it "MUNITIONSFABRIKEN. BERLIN." any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Sounds German to me. Many of them were rechambered to
.308 and '06.

No, it's Brazilian. The Germans and Czechs and others made many of the South American Mausers. The 08 Brazilians started out as 7x57's but I believe there are both .30'06 and 7.62 NATO variations on them. Check over on the gun boards military mauser forum to see what you're looking at, or reference the bible on this topic--Military Mauser Rifles of the World.

Rechambering Belgian and German Mausers made from Latin America to .308 really isn't uncommon. Sportsman's Guide used to sell Chilean rifles that had been rechambered to .308 as well.

Century used FN made 1894 Brazilian Mauser actions as the basis for 7.62x39 sporters.

About 15 to 20 years ago, the old Springfield Armory Company sold a fair number of Brazilian 1908 Mauser's made in Germany by DWM.

They re-barreled them to .308 with new FN made 24 inch barrels, and shortened the wood to match.
These were parkerized, and were nice rifles.

I think that must be what this is, since from what I can see the Brazilian arsenal jobs included a full scrub of DWM and other earlier marks.

thanks for the info guys. any recomendations on ammo? i still have 2 boxes of the stuff that i used in it OH so long ago...the headstamp on those is marked "FNM 7.6-31" with a crosshair above that. ill get some pics of the rifle up later.

My mauser looks very similar to this one http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=80392802 however mine is parked and has a bent bolt. the crest matches, the serial is in the same spot and looks pretty similar. and mine has the star on the stock like this as well...still slow on the pics...they will be up...just gonna take a bit.
