Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a used Brazilian Springfield Armory Compact 45. The frame is marked FI Brazil and has an "N" serial number. Pretty interesting little piece historically.

My main question stems from the fact the recoil system seems to be different than most compact 45's I've seen. It doesn't appear as though it needs a tool to disassemble and on the surfact looks like a standard 1911's. However, there is a slot for what looks like a flathead screwdriver. Because as I found out, the bushing wont allow the end cap to be removed in the standard fashion.

What is the easiest way to disassemble this gun? I have searched far and wide and haven't found anything. I ended up disassembling the slide from the frame, then working backwards. It works, its just not pretty.

Additonally, the first range trip had one successful magazine and another with 5 seperate failures to extract. The casing gets stuck in the barrel, but falls out with gravity. It appears the extractor is having a difficult time grabbing the casing perfectly. Is this "clocking?" The extractor is under tension and doesn't move and it was clean and had no carbon fouling.

I understand the reliability issues surrounding compact 1911's. So are there any replacements you all would consider? New extractor or recoil spring? Different magazines?

I have included some pictures to better explain the design of this weapon.

Thanks for your help!
