Is Break Free CLP safe on Melonite finishes? Just picked up a new S&W M&P 40, put 100 rds through it (flawless) and then clened it with Break free clp and added a little break free lube/preservative. I guess a better question would be what NOT to use on a melonite slide.

Yeah...it'll strip the finish off down to bare steel.

After polishing for about a thousand years.:what:

Use it safely, use it often, melonite is basically the same as tenifer, you won't hurt a thing.

Break Free is pretty good stuff and I can't imagine it hurting anything gun related. It does a pretty good job on lead removal too but if you really want the best for lead removal, this is a miracle; it even takes lead splatter from revolvers where the cylinder meets the barrel.

Lead Away Gun Cloth and they have patches to delead your barrel.

Read the directions though, you cant use it on blued or parkerized kinds of finished but you can clean any barrel.

Melonite/Tenifer is pretty "bullet proof" stuff.

Hasn't hurt my Glock 17 and I would imagine that your S&W is similarly immune.
