I am getting a new Thompson Center Pro Hunter 270 cal. w/ Stainless Steel Barrel for Christmas. (I CANT WAIT):D
I was Just watching shooting USA and they were talking about a rifle rebuild project they had just finished. I only caught the tail end of the show, and don't know any details about the barrel other than it was a new stainless steel custom. Before they shot groups they said the barrel would have to be broken in. They wiped the bbl with a dry patch, shot once, cleaned with a bore brush and solvent, re wiped. they repeated the process after 2 shots, then after 3 shots,... until a total of 50 rounds had been fired.

Do I need to break in my Barrel like that? or is there any other precautions I should take with my new TC?

Since I have to wait until Christmas to get my TC, I was Planning on zeroing late on the 25th and Hunting the morning of the 26th.

I tried a search on this, but maybe my connection is slow, but I could not get any hits.
Thanks

Just shoot it and clean it when it gets dirty. You will be just fine. I never was a fan of a break in ritual.

You get the same benefit from shooting and trying loads, if you are a hand loader from load development. Albeit at over a longer period of time and at a lower cost.

I just watched that same thing, but I don't believe that you have to follow such a strict "break in". I would just clean up any oil and grease from the factory and start shooting. I have never broken in my guns, mostly because I don't buy new firearms, but I just don't see the need to shoot once clean shoot twice clean. I have a 7600 that had less than 20 rounds through it when I got it, took it out under an inch at 100yards, took it out again, and shot just around an inch on the same area in respect to where I was aiming.
