That’s fine if WE decide that, it’s not if the government does.

But what do I know, my president said I’m a terrorist because I got a red hat at a party one time…:scrutiny:

The trouble is, the hat can always change colors, and does.

(Further, regarding Uvalde, what’s the point if nobody does anything until an houro_O into it? Just like Sandy Hook, et al.
Red herring argument if you ask me.
Threats of violence are a criminal act in themselves, and their lack of prosecution until the unthinkable happens is proof of the need for effective, modern, self defense. The police, god save them, won’t be there when you need them, unless it’s a ticket you need.)

Likewise, a “minimum standard” can always be raised high enough to be disqualifying for all but those “good enough to tithe the king”.
An entire weekend with debilitatingly expensive childcare, or nearly an entire work week of double shifting class and career, also with childcare, at an increased rate.
Two separate range trips, and I assume range fees, as well as ammunition, to prove handling with a live weapon? What would the second go round prove the first wouldn’t? That they could afford it?

Hopefully this has some staying power past the few days, because not just politicians need protection from their malfeasance.

All of these laws people in these cities have to tolerate in cities disgust me, but having to list your social media accounts for "review"? I guess if you pledge allegiance to some terrorist group or make public threats, etc maybe that's a good reason to hamper your ability to get a permit but I have a feeling that's not the purpose of the extra vetting....

I wouldn't live in a anti gun state if I had a choice, one of the reasons I left California when I retired.

You're right it's an excuse to deny a perfectly acceptable application. If I didn't have my permit already, I'd be denied for speaking against the constitutionality of ny permit processes alone. Never mind speaking out against the tyrannical liberals running this state.

"And an in-person meeting with a licensing inspector."

O, all of NY only has 1 licensing inspector, sorry, your wait time is 32 years.

No one in government should be ever be allowed to interfere with our rights.

That depends on your view of what rights are actually rights. There seems to be some controversy over what 'rights' are but we don't go there on THR. Rights are a social construct driven by psychological, economic, political and some think supernaturally defined (or naturally defined) processes. Of course your view of a right is correct and mine may not be. That's why Scotus splits decisions on rights ALL THE TIME and justices are chosen for their predicted pre-existing biases as to what is a 'right'.
