bright stainless anaconda

Can someone please explain the reason some anacondas were made bright stainless and most are the satin variety? I have an eight inch of the common variety, and was looking for a four-inch, one on an on-line auction was over $1400, bright stainless. I also found a reg. stainless for $700, this seems a big difference. jim

Hmmm.... that is a good questions. I think the earlier Anacondas were the ones made with the bright polish.

The majority of Anacondas were mfg in a satin or brushed stainless.
There was not a lot of them done in polished or the ultimate bright finish.
There was a series of first editions. Those were all done in bright stainless.
Keep in mind, any of them could have been ordered through the Colt custom shop in bright polished finish for an additional cost.
I rarely see that big of a price difference in the satin & bright finished Anacondas. You will see a difference in price, just double the price does seem high. Are you sure one was not 44 magnum and the other a 45 LC ?
You will see a huge price difference in the 4 inch gun in 45 LC due in part to it being a very hard gun to find.

Thanks. I believe I just got one of the generic mirror-polished Anacondas in .44 Mag, 6". A dealer I rarely frequent had the thing and I'd been looking for something to replace the 629 I'd sold.

It was purportedly NIB and looked the part. I bought it as a shooter so the finish wasn't much of a factor but it's always nice to know it was likely Colt that did it rather than somebody with a buffer.

I just hadn't heard of polished Anacondas before. It's not likely to stay that way for long, knowing my ham-handed self. There didn't seem to be much, if any, of a premium for polish as noted in the OP.
