Hello
I don't post here much but while searching about an issue I and others may be having with Mech Tech I ran across this old thread
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=9010148#post9010148
So please let me offer my experiances.
I own / owned both an older .45 1911 Mech- Tech CCU and an older Glock17 CCU.
On the 1911,
I've used it in 3 gun and Steel Challenge competition without any failures. I use my reloads which are using my hard cast 180 or 200 gr swc bullets. To make major power for 3 gun I load 4.... of WST behind a 180 or 200 gr. bullet.
For Steel Challenge I use a lighter charge of WST or 3... of Bullseye with my 180 gr cast bullet. These load equal what was or still is used by bullseye shooters. I've never had a stovepipe or feed problem
On the Glock 17 CCU
This one has been / was a problem. It has stove pipe isues, but not from the reloads but from breaking the extractor pivot pin. The wife shot this in Steel Challenge matches. with 3... to 4.... of 700x behind my hard cast 124 gr cn bullet. One is a light load and the other is hot load because of leading for a cast bullet.
What is going on is there is a pin that holds the extracrtor in the groove of the bolt. When this breaks stove pipes begin because the extractor rides forward in it's bolt slot as it hooks the fired brass. It's just riding loose in the bolt not holding the fired bras for the ejector. I know of 2 other competitive shooter that have experienced this. They tried drill rod as replacement pivot pins.
It's been back to Mech-Tech twice for replacing the pivot pin. Once for repair and the second time under warranty. They won't ship a pin to you because "they're afraid of liabilities because there have been many changes. So you have to ship the bolt back to them on your dime and pay again to get it back.
Now for what I was searching for and an FYI to owners and future owners.
If you do send them your unit and they're going to send it back, or you're buying one make sure they insure it.
What I've been searching for is to see if anyone else is in my predicament.
This last time that Mech-Tech had my unit for repair, they sent it back without notifying me. And then I discovered it never arrive. It either got lost or was stolen from my door step.
I also found out from Fed-x that Mech-Tech didn't take out any insurance or require a signature.
Mech-Tech also says that they aren't going replace my unit because Fed-X says they delivered to my door. Fed-x says since Mech-Tech didn't insure the item, they will only pay $100.00
Buyer, owner beware, John
