Hello. Have a S&W 2nd model .455/.45 Colt being converted soon to a .44 special.

Have given the gunsmith a .44 special barrel and cylinder with extractor to replace the .45 caliber set up. These parts will work in a 2nd model gun.

My question is, will the existing .45 hand hand work for the .44 special ratchet wheel, will there be any other factors in this conversion that may poise a problem. Barrel cylinder gap shouldn't be a problem that can't be corrected.

Thanks for any information.

Work has not begun yet, he has many other guns to get out of the way before he works on mine.

Thought some savy gent that's been there, done that, could tell me what to expect...that's all.

Reckon you can't tell me???

Off hand, I can't think of any problems with that conversion except the barrel cylinder interface. If the gap is not there or is too little, no problem, the barrel can be trimmed. But if it is too large, you have a problem, since the S&W barrel with the front lock can't just be set back one thread like a Colt barrel can. The gunsmith should check that first, before even starting work.
