Just thought I would give some of you some ammunition, plus that second story is going to be a really hot topic.

ID cards will die before they ever come near, if the opposition parties make as much use of it as they should - it could be the next elections main issue and, if (as the rumour goes) it will cost £40 each then the Government is going to lose a load of votes.

Also its unlikely that it will just be the roads shut off for the visit of GWB- there would be no point in closing the Mall and Whitehall if you werent going to close St. James' Park, Green Park, Horseguards Parade, Birdcage Walk, Buckingham Palace Road and Constitution Hill and the surrounding little streets. Theyre also on about closing "parts of the City", for what purpose one can not imagine as the City is nowhere near the Palace or the US Embassy. I just hope this doesnt get out of hand as one has promotion exams around that time, and if I am forced to miss them due to this I shall, to use the coloqiual term "kick right off".

With regards to the GWB story this is a bit odd

But James Rubin, former US assistant secretary of state during the Clinton presidency, said there were two issues for the White House to consider.

"One is after 9/11 and the possibility of a direct attack on the president and his entourage that has existed in the last couple of years, security caution is very high," he said.

I understand that.

"But there's also something else new in that President Bush is coming to a country that was the scene of enormous demonstrations.

"I think he is coming to a city that will represent extreme opposition in large numbers to what he has tried to do in Iraq."

Here is my problem. My reaction to this is - 'So?'
