This article reminded me of a few posts that Zoogster has made over the years about how the GCA-'68 effectively removed gun sales from non-licensed retail outlets like the local hardware store, autoparts dealer, and grocery store. Now many gun sales take place off in a 'specialty shop' like a taboo adult bookstore. This article, although in the UK, takes the shunning to another level. This puts hunting periodicals in the margin with those of overt sexual imagery; both are now adult content.

The antis have been pushing the gun culture out of the public eye in many different ways over the past few decades, and here's just another example. Hopefully this never happens here in America.

No shooting magazines for sale to under-14s

http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/shooting-magazines-sale-14s/story-17088590-detail/story.html

Country sports enthusiasts are furious at a decision by Britain's biggest newsagent to ban children from buying shooting magazines after a campaign by animal rights activists.

WH Smith says youngsters under 14 will not be sold shooting titles, even though it is legal to hold a shotgun licence below that age.

And even adult customers attempting to buy a magazine featuring shooting now face a humiliating alert as staff receive a "till prompt" to check the buyer's age.

Reading the title, I was hoping this was about magazines that feed ammo into guns, not the periodical kind. Fascinating. I wonder when they're going to start burning books?

Well, if they can trounce all over the 2A, why not trounce over 1A as well?

Reporters shouldn't be allowed to bash the President. They should only be allowed to publish good things about the President. But governors and congress are okay.

Oh look, in 13/50 states, they have implemented laws that you can't bash the Governor. But they tried to publish laws that say you can't bash congress, but the Supreme Court struck it down, as Congress is above the state level.

Hey, Congress got wind of this and passed a law that says you can't bash congess, but...

Doesn't this look familiar?

ETA: Obviously the scenario I presented is fictional, but you get the point.

Is anybody else alarmed by the fact that in less time than it takes a child to earn their driver's license, Britain has gone from having irksome but okay gun laws, to having done everything short of banning guns completely and making it a crime to even look into them?

Until the British people find candidates that are willing to run for office that are willing to put an end to this kind of nonsense, and until the British people are willing to elect such candidates, then the British people will continue to deserve the government they have.

What does any of that have to do with a store in the UK deciding who they will sell magazines too?

How VERY British.

They have slowly surrendered their freedoms to the ever growing nanny state.:banghead:

Folks this has nothing to do with any Gov legislation. It's just one retail company deciding to act like idiots. It's no different than some stores in ther USA banning the carrying of handguns on their premises.

Gun mags are freely available elsewhere including my local supermarket.

I've written to the store (WH Smiths) to complain that since you have to be 17 to drive a car here they should only sell car mags to over 17 year olds.

Haven't had a reply yet:rolleyes:

Correct. This is not a government/legislative issue. This is a private company policy.

It could be an indication of cultural/societal progression and/or conditioning toward making all areas of the "gun culture" taboo and marginalized. When a lie is repeated loud enough and often enough...

I heard that yesterday, Google stock plunged something like $28 billion in eight minutes.
I kinda missed the particulars as to why. I can only hope that my boycotting them only served to help.

Dear oh Dear,whatever next

In the good old days,I used to buy GunMart,Target-Pistol,Air Gun World, etc from WHSMITHS & nobody then gave me any problems at all.Nobody blinked an eye. This of course was about 19 years ago, when I was in junior school & most kids were only interested in soccor or in airguns,as alot of my class-mates were into the scouts activities. This policy is useless & ineffective.
These problems in society are caused by more feral kids being born over here, lack of discipline, the rise of the do-gooder brigades, etc.
Animal Rights activists eh?Don't get me started on those numpties. The problems in the UK are down to the rises in chavism, lack of harsh discipline, gangsta rap(Alot of white & Asian, nowdays kids speak like LA hoods)Today its a far-cry from my childhood in 1994,when pistols were legal.

My great-grandmother gave my late-grandmother her fur coat, which was made in the 1920s or 30s in about 1987,when the animal-rights activists(Mainly the Animal Liberation Front:) went round burning fur coats &attacking anyone(Young or old)they wearing them,by violently-assaulting them-like Stormtroopers.Yet they had the cheek to call the police "Thatchers Brownshirts?".They even set Debenhams department store ablaze.Done by an undercover cop, from what I read.
So here we have it:These animal rights certainly are hypocrites. They dislike guns & shooting-sports(Including target-shooting,which they claim they tolerate, would you believe?:)yet they have no problems in assaulting an elderly granny, wearing a fur-coat.Scumbags they are. They need a dosage of pepperspray.
