Hello all, short time lurker, first time poster. So I have a para ordnance Carry 9 purchased at the end of August. I've probably put 700-800 rds. through it. I was cleaning it last night and noticed little pieces of metal inside of it, lo and behold, I'm cleaning the extractor claw and half of it is missing! Just wondering if there is a replacement extractor I can put on it from another company. I've emailed para and I'm fairly confident their answer is going to be to send the gun in to them. I'd rather not have it replaced with yet another MIM part from them. Any input??? I'm temporarily in the Memphis area (several months) and am a KY resident. Any ideas???

Check with EGW. They offer great extractors and have a sleeve that allows their extractors to fit Para's oversized hole.

If it's a standard, internal extractor...the aftermarket has'em. If it's a Power Extractor...whatever that means...you'll have to go with the manufacturer.
The only major manufacturer that I'm aware of has that ever used MIM extractors is Colt...and that only for a short time. Back in the day, Thompson Auto Ordnance used investment cast extractors, but those have long since disappeared. I don't know if any of the el-cheapo suppliers sell cast or MIM extractors, but anything is possible. Stick with name brands. Wilson...EGW...Nowlin...Brown, etc...and even Colt's OEM extractors available from Brownells listed in the factory parts section of the catalog.
The question is...What caused it to break in the first place? Extracting and ejecting puts very little stress on the part...so that can probably be ruled out. Whatever broke it will break the new one eventually if it's not resolved.

Tuner, check out my post above. EGW has a way around the Para proprietary extractor. It's not well known ..... yet.

1911 tuner, thanks for the info. I'm not sure what caused the extractor to break (it is the power extractor), I've had the gun for 2 1/2 months. Literally half of the claw is missing, and has jagged metal around the area thats missing. The gun will still cycle and eject rounds manually (snap caps of course). As for the MIM, I believe I read that there were 3 parts on the para that were MIM: the hammer, the extractor, and either the actual trigger (although it seems to be pretty solid with no real indicators of being anything but machined) or the grip safety... I can't remember where I read this, but I wanna say on para's own forum, but who knows if it's accurate.
I looked at the extractors from EGW, was curious though if the part is the same for the .45 as it is for the 9mm. I would guess no, as EGW doesn't have make/model listed except for the .45 version. I have sent them an email asking if they do in fact have a way to fit the part onto a 9mm. I guess I'm just bummed that a $900 gun is broken after 2 1/2 months of fairly light shooting. Bummer.
