Hi- I have a couple hundred rounds of 7.63 mauser pistol ammo which I purchased years ago. Comes in a black plactic box of 50 rounds and was sold by Interarms. The cases are labeled 48 599 and appear to be berdan primed. Anyone know anything about this stuff? -Thanks, Matt

The physical dimensions of 7.62x25 Tokarev ammo are nearly identical to 7.63 Mauser ammo, but it is hotter stuff.

If you plan to run it through a C96 Mauser, make sure you check that the weapon is in sound condition and safe to fire first.

NO, NO, NO. The Mauser C96 'Broomhandle' shoots 7.63 Mauser ammunition, NOT 7.62 x 25 Tokarev. Tokarev ammunition is often loaded significantly hotter than 7.63 Mauser ammunition. Remember, the Mauser is an 1896 design; some of that steel is almost a century old; and the only thing between your teeth and the bolt is the bolt stop...

I don't own one of these guns. Night may very well be right despite mscoble's own experience firing this ammo from a C96.

I wouldn't run modern hot .45 Colt loads in my Colt SAA replica. It's a modern replica and stronger than an original 1873 Colt, but it's still the SAA design.

Swiss rifle shooters are advised against using the modern 7.5x55 Swiss ammo (GP11) that people use in K31s in some of the older Schmidt-Rubin rifles because even though it fits in the chamber right, it's too hot.

Good advice given . Shoot the correct ammo . Fiocchi loads 7.63 Mauser .

Will the C96 shoot the "black box" ammo (7.62x25) ? Yes , as mentioned . Is it worth damaging your gun or yourself ? Not in my opinion .

Yes, CZ52 designed for 7.62x25 ammo, also known as Tokarev

Just on Friday I tried 7.63x25 PRV in my 1914 broomhandle - worked flawlessly. I did not have my chono, so I can't provide the data, but it felt the same as Fiocchi ammo i used after PRV

If you shoot 7.62 Tok in a C96 Mauser, you'll soon need a new "bolt stop", the small part at the right rear of the frame. They crack from the higher recoil mpulse.
