This was great. A son of a friend of mine from way back when just moved to Missoula and had never shot a gun before other than a BB gun once. I finally convinced him to head to the range with me today. Started him out on my 10/22 at 50' and got him settled down where he could bullseye out the target every time. At this time he started having a blast.

Then we moved over to the pistol range and I had him shooting my .22 single six at 15 feet. Initially he was doing well to get one round on the paper. Worked on him until he could get a somewhat decent grouping.

I was ready to call that a successful trip, but he wanted to keep going so I had him try my security six with .38 wadcutters, again at first he was all over the board. 100 some odd rounds later he finally did a six shot string and placed all 6 rounds inside a gopher's head (targetz fun targets) from 20 feet. I doubt he could do it again on a bet, but I let it slide :) At this point we called it a trip and he saved that last target.

At the end of the trip we took a cruise to a local gun store and picked up a nice used GP100, a cheap nylon holster as a starter, and a couple of boxes of .38 specials.

Man it is fun to initiate somebody into the club!:D

I think it's MT...

My father in law visited bozeman last month (he drove out from CA for the weekend). He hadn't "seen a gun in real life" since he was a teenager. I got him shooting the 10-22, XD9, and 30-30 (at his request). He wasn't a great shot, but it was a blast and he's interested in buying a rifle. His highlight of the day was shooting a rotted pumpkin with some 9mm HPs.

I seriously think it's this state. When I invited him to go shooting in CA, he would never dare. BUT as soon as he visited me in MT, he was fishing, shooting and talking about hunting next year?!

Anyway, just wanted to share my theory, and say the more the better! Good job!
