So. I bought a 10-pk of Brownell's 30 rd AR magazines before the election. I just noticed they are marked multi-caliber. (204 Ruger/223/556/300AAC) (I'll post a direct link below.) It appears I didn't pay attention to what I was buying. I'm a little freaked by the multi-cal aspect. Has anyone used these with 223/556? (I don't care about the other calibers.) Are they good/reliable? Did I screw up? Should I try to sell them and buy the 223/556 only version? What is the difference between these and any other all metal AR magazine?

.300 Blackout is quite literally a cut down .223 and I assume the .204 is also based on that case. To my knowledge there is no ".223 only" version because the Blackout was designed with the sole purpose of working in an AR with just a barrel change. That automatically makes all AR mags multi-caliber.

All I shoot is Brownell's straight 20 rounders. Love the size, love the look, love the price. They are back up to $14 now, but for a while there, they were $10.49, and I got a couple back then.

Quality on them can be hit and miss - the finish tends to wear, and one out of the 3 or 4 I own doesn't drop free. But they've never jammed on me. I don't sweat the quality too bad - most AR mags are pretty chintzy.

I would say those 30 rounders are the equal of any other cheap USGI magazine out there. 223 vs "multi-cal" shouldn't make a difference.

FWIW, if I was planning on hoarding a bunch of 30 rounders, I'd personally either go for Magpuls, or D&Hs if I wanted a cheap metal mag. The D&Hs have a teflon finish that makes them feel really plastic-ey, like they just came off a toy gun, but they don't get scratched up like the Brownells aluminum mags.

Probably marked them different with later batches. When my old unit used the MK12 series of rifles (hot rod AR-15) we wanted 20 round mags because they wouldn't bottom out on the ground in the prone position. Since the army got rid of them decades ago, the unit purchased the 20's from Brownells. We had no issues with them.

Nice to hear. And judging by your avatar, I'm guessing those rifles didn't just sit on a shooting bench either.

According to what I read on their site through your link, you're okay.
I just bought a 25 pack of Brownell 30s just like in that photo. The mags were marked Brownell and 5.56. Maybe they're from an earlier batch, as an earlier poster IIRC said the markings were changed.
Brownells have a very good reputation for quality mags.

The .204s actually based on the 222 RemMag, I use 204 cases in my 6x47.
They might as well be the same case when it comes to feeding tho.
