I have an old prewar A-5 that I put a Japan mfg barrel on so I could shoot steel shot. I want to cut the old barrel down to 19" and put on some sights. Is there a reason why browning never sold one with a barrel shorter than 21" ? Is there a functioning issue on shorter barrells?:)

You might be better off selling the long barrel and looking for the Browning Slug barrel for the A5- I'm pretty sure they exist...

I have a NEW long barrel and a 1935 plain barrel that I am sure is worth little. I want to cut this old barrel down and put on some hi viz sights for quick defensive use. Can I go back to 18" or 19", I remember that short barrels on long recoil guns were unreliable.

IIRC, the old Model 11 Military had a 22" barrel, and the word was that shorter barrels tended to beat up the mechanism and oft glitched. No direct experience, however...

I've got a NIB light 12 buck special barrel that I would like to sell if any one is interested.

I'm buying a good used Jap A-5 magnum with 30" full and 28" modified bbls. Casting aside receiver length, I am curious to know of a 2 3/4" bbl could have mods made to permit fitting this into the mag receiver? Haven't done research on it yet. I don't mind the mag weight but will use for simple trap and perhaps hand thrown shooting. Application is non-hunting. I had a light 12 w/ 30" bbl in 1968 and liked it. I can always pick up a couple more to fit my fiendishments but an mechanically minded and was curious about the mag version.

As mentioned I will sell one barrel as I can always pick up a special commercial to fit any special need.

One of Clyde Barrow's (of Bonnie & Clyde fame) favorite weapons was a sawed off Browning A5. I don't think he woulda kept it around if it had affected function much.... :)

You can see the chopped A5 here leaning against the bumper (try to ignore the BAR!)
