I don't think it's a 'great' price, but might be about market value.

local pawn that i do alot of business with has a Browning Abolt in. I don't see many Brownings, and hardly any commercial 7mms (matter of fact..none) so...

metal was approx 96%, wood was better i'd say 98%. had a tasco HUGE obj. scope that would get replaced with the spare Leupold I have in the safe. I was really wanting more all weather, and looked at a Savage .270 stainless they had for $30 less with a tad better scope on it.

they want $499 PLUS the tax...since I don't get around B's that much, thought i'd ask what ya'll thought.

I looked on Gunbroker, but i'm not sure that's a great judge of prices lately.

thanks very much

Around where I live that is too high. I have seen 98% A-bolts go for $425.

I wouldn't give any value to the scope. Ask them what the price is without the scope.

ment to say its a 7x57 mauser, and i do have some interest in that caliber, though i'm thinking of something in the 270/280/30-06 range

tried that..no luck...their not reallly a mom and pop type local pawn, but a company type pawn

thanks, thought it looked high

Where do you live? In some places guns just seem to cost more.

If you really like it then all that matters is how much it is worth to you. If you're not likely to find another used A-bolt then you should expect to pay a little more.

The only downside to a 7x57 is finding ammo if you don't reload. It's a good calibre, just not that common. If you really want it, go in with $450 in cash, no cheques or plastic and make an offer. Cash is a really good bargaining chip. Plastic and cheques cost both of you service fees.
You're planning on changing the scope anyway so that doesn't matter. Tasco's are total crap. They make a good spare.

The A-Bolt is a much nicer rifle (fit-n-finish) than the Savage. I like the 7x57 chambering a lot - it's really an excellent performer. If the caliber interests you, make 'em an offer.

I'd probably offer $425 out-the-door without the scope or $450 out-the-door with the scope.
