I have the opportunity to get a Browning A Bolt blued/synthetic .270 win. I dont know much about it other than it's a Browning that's made in Japan and was purchased around 99-2000 ish. It doesnt have the BOSS. Is this a good rifle and what would be a fair price for one. I dont believe it has been fired. Sitting in a gun cabinet for about 20 odd years.

It is a push feed correct? I dont really care either way, I'd be happy with an M77 oran A bolt but I dont think I'm gonna find an M77 for $250. The A Bolt has kind of a strange hex shape to the bolt and some strange angles and lines that arent unattractive per se, but not really my thing. The gold trigger isnt really my thing either but I'm not gonna balk at 250

You better buy that gun.....or tell me where I can!

My favorite rifles to date are rhe A-bolt 2s, they manage ro blend form, function and adaptability in a way that i havent seen done since.
There are a couple downsides. While the stocks are really good, they also transmit recoil REALLY well. I find the synthetic abolts to be more uncomfortable to shoot than most other gun (besides old savages) in the same chambering. The other issue is that magazines CAN be expensive. Tho for an 06 family they shouldnt be much more than any other proprietary bolt gun.

I detest the.270, I’ve sold virtually all my rifles, not buying, and I’d buy for $250. I have no idea why you don’t own it already.

It’s a Browning, the best there is. Has to be, because that’s their slogan

He bolt may feel heavy at first, it's doing the same work in 60° compared to 90° of most rifles. It's just how they are tho, Browning tried there best by adding a wheel on the cocking can instead of sliding metal.

I like the synthetic stocks they fit me well, recoil doesn't seem had most of the abolts I've shot and had were magnums. My 7wsm I don't even feel the recoil in the field of the bench. Triggers could be better but for a hunting rifle there fine. I really like the hinged floor plate and how the mag removes, one of its best features that and the tang safety.

they all shoot very well.

It used to be my fathers, he didnt have it long before he sold it to my uncle a long time ago and my uncle earmarked it for me and said it was mine when I graduated high school but somewhere along the way my uncle got cold feet about letting it go, or something to that effect. Then about a year ago, almost 15 years later, my uncle mentions selling some guns so I let him know that's one that if he sells, I'd like to buy. He said he would give it to me but I feel I should pay something for it. That's basically the gist of it. He brought it up the other day when we were talking rifles and asked why I hadn't picked it up. I guess I will now, the idea that it's never been shot, and will probably never be shot if I dont move on it is depressing.

Just curious, why do you detest the .270? I hate the .40S&W, basically for no good reason. I'm guessing you have a reason since it's a hunting cartridge. Failed on game? If I was shopping for a new rifle I dont think I'd buy a .270, I think I prefer short actions but I'm not going to pass up the .270 because I think I should have a spare hunting rifle or two kicking around. If I really like it it might be my new favorite idk. I plan on putting a luepold VX III or something nice on it.

A-Bolts are great rifles, photo of youngest son using a Stainless Stalker 25-06 on Prairie Dogs. Oldest son has same rifle in 7mm with a boss system.

I would be even happier if it was a stainless stalker, I have a thing for the look of stainless composite. I'm not going to complain though. It's a good deal.

I have a matte stainless/syn American compact in 708 but the matte ss isnt the true stainless look and the stock isnt really quality synthetic. I would love the stainless stalker or SS/syn M77. I had a chance to buy a M77 ss/syn in .300wm a few years back but I thought it was pretty beat and stock looked sun bleached for $700.

I'm looking at a Vortex diamondback 4-12×40 or a VXii of the same power/obj. The leupold is $100 more but saw a bunch of complaints about he turrets and mushy windage/elevation adjustment.

It's a deer rifle so your not going to be cranking knobs all day with it, but leupolds hold zero just fine. I've been told my many people to avoid any vortex that's not at least a razor or up.

I'd go leupold

Ive got a modified EGW rail for the A-bolts if you want it. I cut the front down so that I could pull the scope farther back....I can grab pictures if you like. I MIGHT have another set of Talley rings, but im almost positive those are specifically for the Ti-Mountain Abolts, which had a different receiver profile.

Back a couple lifetimes ago in my youth in the 60’s, my uncle had a .270 that we used for groundhogs. He thought it was cool to “load it hot”. It had a variable Weaver scope that would only hold zero if you didn’t change power.

It had minimal eye relief so you had to be super careful to not get whacked, and it was light and had a poor stock design so it really kicked. You gritted your teeth every time you pulled the trigger.

After that I went to a heavy barrel .22-250 that had almost zero recoil

Yeah that sounds nice, I do like the look of the one piece rail. I'll PM you a lil bit later sbout a price and if you're willing to part with it I'll probably take it off your hands. Also yeah pics would be good when convenient.
