I have a great old A5 that my dad bought in 1949, it is a fun gun, but I want to get a spare barrel I can cut back to 20" or so for use on hogs in heavy cover up close.
does anyone out there know where I could find a used barrel, or have a used A5 barrel you wish to sell?
thanks for any advice on where to find one:eek:

As evan price said, the barrels usually sell for so much that you might as well buy an entire gun. Here's one of the lowest priced barrels I've seen, but it's plain (no rib) so you'd probably have to do something for a sight if you want to use it in a situation where you need to aim precisely. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=362777823

Re: buying entire guns at bargain prices, if you're willing to take one with a Cutts or a polychoke on it, you can get incredible bargains for what the gun is (a super-high quality firearm). I bought this one for HD use, paid $281 (plus shipping and transfer) on GB. It's in outstanding mechanical condition, the metal finish is excellent, and good wood. A 1954 Belgium-built Browning for the price of a cheap stamped-part pump gun.

Mine's a 1954 version of the light twelve. I traded off the original round no rib bbl to a friend for one with a ribbed poly choke. Great shooter, and unlike the junk today one does not have to pack a case of spare chokes around! I sure fail to see the utility of screw in choke systems anyway. Mine does it all, from extra full to cylinder bore and with only a twist at that.

Far as slugs go, the full length bbl I have works well, but I picked up a Hastings rifled bbl some years back. I can keep every shot on a coke can at a hundred with sabots, not worth a damn with any shot version but if you desire accuracy it is without doubt the way to go.

Did own a smooth bore Browning buck bbl that shot both slug and buck quite well but a friend wanted it & I really didn't need three versions so it went.

Far as an old spare for mod goes I've seen several just stacked in a barrel in a gunshop at quite reasonable prices........I'd suggest you try frequenting some mom & pop stores and ask......those bbls are not uncommon.

As I recall the one's I saw were in Brother's Gunshop in Deland, Florida........might be worth a lookup & a phone call.
