Browning A5 identification HELP

I would greatly appreciate your help fellas. I'm trying to determine the year or era of this A5 for a friend of mine. The serial number as told to me appears as this "x26032". A picture below shows the earlier style safety. Is this pre WWII?

Browning on the A5 started the x serial numbers in 16 gauge in 1947. That serial number should date it to 1949 if it is a 16ga. Or if it is a 12ga it should be 1948.
 
Interesting - the Browning web site makes no mention of the X or a restart of the serial numbers at all. I guess it was a way to differentiate the end of the ABCs?
