I am contemplating making a HD barrel out of it. But first I need to run a bore micrometer down it. I measured the muzzle diameter as it stands at 24"
and it was .700" which would be a full choke based on constriction, which I found odd, but exciting. I was expecting cylinder or maybe .010 constriction, but not a full .030"
I plan on hitting the pattern board with it tomorrow morning to see what kind of patterns it throws with some 00 ammo, if they are sufficient, I may just remove the sights and get to work from there. Other wise I will cut the barrel just forward of the mag extender and remove the rear sight. If I cut the barrel 1/4" forward of the mag extender, the barrel will be 20 1/2" long based on repeated measurements.
I already have a 8 round Choate mag extender and I plan on stripping the stocks down and going with either a satin factory style finish or an oil finish. It is also possible that I will add a set of the factory synthetics. I do plan go with a Black T from Walter Birdsong, I have an Invector + 28" barrel that I could add to the "combo" to make it a multi-tasker.
I always keep a 1911 within reach, but something really excited me when I started planning this out, and I cannot wait for it to be done. I found the donor gun last week with the deer barrel, and the seller made me a sweet deal on it. He said he has had no interest in A5's with the deer barrel.
