How can I take the stock off my 1931 browning auto-5 12 ga? I see some of the screws but it is not coming off yet. I am looking to clean the wood and put a few coats of tung oil on it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a manual but the expoded diagram doesnt really show.

Thanks

MC

if you take off the butt plate there is a screw holding it on. You will need a long screwdriver to reach it. put a littlesoap or oil on the tip of the screw driver to ease it in for the removal of the buttplate it it's rubber.

The A-5 Browning does not have a stock through-bolt holding the stock on.
The action spring tube is inside the stock were a through-bolt would normally be.

To remove the stock, locate the two rearmost screws on the bottom tang.

The small screw is a lock to keep the big tang screw from coming out.
1. Remove the sm. lock screw.
2. Remove the Lg. tang screw.
3. Pull the stock off.

Don't mess with any of the other screws, as they all hold internal parts that can't be put back without total action dissembly!

Thanks RC. it worked. It was just really stuck on there. Prob never been removed :) The other post had me totally puzzled. I was looking in the 2 cavity holes and there was no screw.
