I'm looking at the BAR & the BPR (pump rifle). I know the BPR is been gone for a while but I have a line on one (NIB). Standard calibers will be used no Magnum's here. Any thoughts on both rifles or any horror stories. Looking for ease of carry and solid perfomance. Shooting, deer, boar & black bear. Thanks for the input...

I've had this for a couple of years now in plain old boring .30-06. Shoots great, no reliability issues, not particularly heavy for a semi.
This winter was the first hunting season with it and it worked out great.

I like the Safari model better than the other BARs but that's just a personal thing.

I've never heard any BAR horror stories.

I would buy it again no question. As for hunting, it's '06. Like you I don't really believe the "Magnum Whatever" is necessary for North America. The '06 does it for me.

with a choice i'd take the semi auto BAR over the pump BPR anyday.

+1 Texas Rifleman. I hunt with a MKI in .308 and have shot many animals with a MKII in .270. Great rifles and never a single malfunction. Good luck on your purchase!

I have no particular prejudice in favor of semiautos. Pumps are simpler, easier to clean, and more reliable.

However, pump rifles have a downside: a foreend that isn't stable. So I'd take the BAR, I think.

I used to own a BAR in 30-06 and took it on a couple elk hunts. I had problems maintaining zero. I'm not sure if this was the cause, but the scope base threaded holes on top of the receiver were pathetically shallow, only about 2 3/4 threads to hold the bases on.
I don't know if this is typical of BAR's, but if you plan to mount a scope on one of these rifles I'd look real close at those threaded holes if it doesn't already have bases on it.
Otherwise a great rifle.

Geez a Browning pump rifle. Haven't seen one in years. I'd go for it.
Had a BAR Safari in 7mag years ago, shot really well and reliable. Shoulda kept it. But I was getting into lever actions....

The BAR worked without a hitch in WWII. I have always thought of Browning rifles as quality products! I've never felt I could afford one.

Don't think we are talking about the same rifle there Big Bill.

Check out the reports of accuracy on the BAR, I have found the majority of owners were not happy with em'. Ditched the one I had (.300 Win Mag.) because of it.
