Have you guys seen the new Browning BAR Zenith line? They look like a higher end version of the newer BAR with shorter fluted barrel. I REALLY like the looks of this gun other then the god awful side plates they put on the receiver. They either use a wood plate or stag/hog scene in silver that must've been designed for Europe.

My question is do you think it's possible to "custom order" that gun from Browning with just a standard black mate receiver without the stupid looking side plates?

I do not think so, but you can always call and ask. It is possible that there are distributor special runs that are more in line with what you want.

i do not care for the new BARs. i have two classic BARs and love the way they shoot and look but i cant warm up to the new ones. im old.

I have 2 of the slight older BARs, more of the classic looks, even though one is a Stalker model. Mine are in 243 & 308.

Have you guys seen the Zenith line? I think it looks a lot better then the short/long trac models in the stock and forearm but I just cant get over the cheesy looking side plates. Either actually engrave the receiver or leave it plain but the hidious looking silver or wood inserts on the receiver totally turn me off. Maybe it looks better in person but I doubt it.

I agree. To me the Safari model is the only good looking rifle in the lineup.

Are they still claiming 6lb 1oz on those? I wish it were true but I don't buy it. I know that Browning fudges the stated weights but that's ridicules.

BTW the lack of specs, the inaccurate weights, the "NEW" and "SHOT SHOW" labels have all been on those pages for over a year. That means that they were "NEW" at the last "Shot Show" almost a year ago. You would think that Browning could pay somebody to do internet work.

I believe the Zenith line is the standard line in Europe. If you want accurate stats just look on a site from Europe. They do have shorter fluted barrels so they should be a little lighter then the standard ones.

I went to the Browning International site and they seemed all over the place too. http://www.browningint.com/products/firearm.php?productsarea=browning&sommaire=Rifles

All of the rifles had 51cm barrels. I assume that's 22".

No weights were given.

And for magazine capacity three different rifles came in these calibers 270WSM, 308, 7x64,7 Rem, 30-06, 300WMag, 9,3x62. One said 2+1 capacity, one said 3+1 and one said 4+1.

Geez Browning.:banghead:

If anyone can find a link with accurate specs please link it.

I thought the smaller calibers like 308 had 20" barrels and the magnums 22". I'd really love to have one of those in 308 if the 20" barrel is true. With the aluminum receiver it would balance a lot better with a 20" barrel.
