Hi all,

Picked up a used BLR 308 and it doesn't eject the casings very far, maybe a couple feet. Was told that is normal because of the type of bolt and that it can be made to eject more forcibly at the expense of harder lever action. Was the guy blowing smoke? Should I have it checked out? If it's a bad extractor, how expensive of a fix? Any info would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Tom

The distance it throws spent brass is not determined by the extractor.
The ejector plunger & spring in the bolt face is what throws the case out when the mouth of the case clears the ejection port.

I would attempt to get some thin oil or solvent in it and push it in & out with a flat blade screwdriver to loosen it up.

Part #16 & #17:

DO Not attempt to take the bolt out and dissemble it to clean it.
The BLR bolt runs off a rack & pinion gear arrangement on the lever and it is Too easy to get it out of time so it won't lock the bolt fully.

BTW: If it reliably ejects every time, and gets the empty case out of the gun, how far it throws it is really not importent at all. A lot of handloaders would love it if all thier brass ended up in a pile at their feet.
