Browning BLR optic mount

Hi Folks,

I just came into possession of a 1970 BLR. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope but I am not interested in mounting a traditional scope. I would like to be able to mount my aimpoint ML-2 or perhaps a scout scope. Is there a way to mount a picatinny rail on the receiver of this gun and if so where might I find one? What a nice lever action this is btw, it's a .308 that shoots without a biting recoil when fired from the standing position.

Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Weaver lists bases for the BLR. If your 1970 has a flat top receiver, you need (2) 28's. If your 1970 has a round top, you need either (2) 25's or (2) S25's if you want Grand Slam steel bases.

Weaver also makes 30mm rings in a couple of different heights and an "extended" model that permits mounting the scope either forward or backward from the mount location on the receiver.

The 30mm rings will fit the Aimpoint ML2, which only needs one. If you aren't going to mount a traditional scope on the receiver, ever, then you also only need one base.

The current production BLR's have two locations for scope mounting (receiver and barrel) and a "scout mount" for the forward location available as an accessory. I'm not sure if the barrel contour was preserved through the years, but it is possible that the current production Browning scout mount might fit your barrel if a gunsmith mounted it...

As you know, LER scopes don't work well in a receiver mount -- but you can mount a traditional scope there.

Thanks for your reply. The ML-2 I have has a quick throw attachment for a picatinny rail. I was hoping to be able to find a short section of picatinny to attach directly to the forward receiver scope base mounting holes. It would be nice to be able to switch the ML-2 between rifles without changing rings. That not withstanding, I think your idea of one mount and one ring to mount the ML-2 with would work.

The other idea I have been considering is putting on a set of ghost ring sights but the front sight is a problem.

All this hassle because my eyes don't seem to work as good as they used to.

Problem Solved......

I ordered a single Weaver #25 mount. My aimpoint ML-2 has a arms 17 trilock mount on it. That mount only requires a single slot on the base to attach to. Weaver and Picatinny slots are not the same size and the spacing is different. I now have to take a file and open the slot in the weaver mount for the picatinny bar to fit. No problem since I only need one slot.
