I'm looking at getting a basic model Browning Buck Mark and was wondering what kind of experiences people have had with them. I have zero experience with them but from the ones I've held I really like the feel of them. I need a .22 pistol since I don't have one in my collection. I've owned a Ruger MK2 and 22/45 but I think I'd like to go with the Buck Mark if they are comparable.
 
I had a Buckmark Standard for some time. Great gun--never had any trouble with it. In my opinion they are on par with the Ruger in terms of reliability and accuracy.
 
I have 4 of them, and two have really good triggers and the other two do not. My suggestion is, since the two with the good triggers were the more expensive ones, if you get one, go for the higher priced models. The part numbers in the manual are the same, so I have to believe a "gunsmith" at the factory worked on the good ones.

My only complaint is in field-stripping. I've had the little clip that holds the captured recoil spring go into orbit.

Having said that, I will say that I don't see the "professional" shooters at the range shooting them. The guys with the hats (for all the matches they have won) are shooting Rugers. One of them just bought his 12th so he now has an even dozen Rugers.
 
I like the one I got for $185 last year, the standard model used. I like it as much or more than my Ruger MKII's and 22/45's.

I hear the camper model has a cheap plastic rear sight.
 
The Camper model is the one I'm looking at, the sights appeared to be all metal on the one I looked at.

The shop is asking $289 which may be a little high but still within my price range.
 
Great trigger, very accurate and very dependable. I dare compare my Buckmark 5.5 Field to my Woodsman Match Target...and that says alot.
 
My first firearm was a Buckmark pistol, all of 6 months ago. My sons and I have put several thousand rounds through it since then. It's a good gun with a decent trigger and reliable as long as I feed it CCI ammo. My only real issue with it is that if you want to clean it more thoroughly than just running a rod in from the muzzle, you have to separate the sight rail from the barrel, which means you have to sight it in again after every cleaning. Not ideal for bullseye shooting.
 
Which is the best buck mark? I can't find a side-by-side comparison on the Browning site - does another site have this type of info?

I bought a Buckmark Camper several months ago,, great gun. Very accurate, It shoots anything we put in it, 300-500 round at a shooting session. my 15 yr old son really likes it a lot, I had a mkII before and really like the buckmark better. much easier to take down for cleaning.

for the side by side comparison, you might try Davidson's, galleryofguns.com they list most models and can get you some idea of prices.

I love mine - make sure the grip screws are tight or you can have interesting trigger issues. (Heh.)

Also, the manual isn't kidding when they recommend eye protection for disassembly. Little springs under a lot of tension - beware of the "ping"! Nothing like a Mk. II/III and the mallet requirement though!
 
I've owned both the Ruger and Browning. I have a slight preference for the Ruger, they offer one in stainless, but could be happy with either. Don't see how you can go wrong.
