Hi guys. I bought my Buckmark about a year ago and I have between 4-6k rounds through it. About 500 or so rounds ago my gun began acting strangely. It would eject the empty magazine upon my firing the last round. This happened with both of my mags, so I don't think its a mag specific problem, however, it would be interesting to know whether there is a "life" on a magazine. I've never stored bullets in the magazines when they were not in use, and they feed well. So why do they eject when empty?

My theory: The magazine release spring might be worn out or perhaps loosened due to the volume of rounds fired--which resulted in less pressure on the magazine release button. This lack of tension is compensated for with a magazine that has rounds in it, because there is greater pressure pushing down on the magazine, but when the slide catches on the last round, the pressure is released and the magazine rattles and falls free.

Is there any merit to this theory? Has anyone else had this problem? Solutions?

My first suggestion is that you check that the right (opposite the magazine latch button) grip screw is tight.
If that doesn't solve the issue, check the latch for wear on the edges of the shelf that hold the magazine in place.
You could give the latch spring a little more bend if the latch looks good.
Regards,
Greg

I have over 25K rounds through my buckmark and have never experienced this issue. I doubt very much you have any worn spring problems at 5K rounds or so. As mentioned earlier, make sure your grip screws are tight. The grip actually holds in a lot of "stuff" on the Buckmark so if they're loose all kinds of odd things can happen. You might post this at rimfirecentral.com. There is a seperate Browning forum there and quite a few guys with a lot of in depth Buckmark knowledge.

I took the grips off my Buckmark exactly once.

Never again. Unless I can grow another hand.

It does this with all magazines?

And I'm not clear, it does this after firing the last round or when the last round is stripped out?

Yes, it has happened with both of my magazines.

Also yes, it does this only after "firing" the last round only, although I have not actually tried manually cycling the last round without firing in order to see if the magazine would drop.

I'll try rimfire central as well, & I'll check the grips to make sure they're tight.
