I just purchased a Browning O/U Citori. Got a great price on it used. It's a beautiful gun etc. They disassembled it at the store and boxed and now I have it at home. I'm having trouble re-assembling it.

I push the release lever to the far right, seat the barrells into the action, close the action, let the release lever return to the center, but it doesn't return exactly to the center. The barrel appears to be snuggly fitted into the action.

I've tried this numerous times, being careful to make sure I'm not forcing the barrels into the action or grinding it.

Of course, the forearm bracket doesn't attach properly because of this. Does anyone have any thoughts or found the citori finnicky? I'm going to take it back in tomorrow, but wanted to go shooting with it in the morning if I can get it assembled! Thanks

I'm not an expert here, but I think there's something critical about the way the wooden hardguard piece fits. It sorta locks everything together properly. It's counter-intuitive, so mebbe try fiddling with it even if it doesn't look like it would help.

If all else fails, read the directions.

The more i thin kabout it...

There's a spring-loaded release lever on the bottom of the handguard/forearm. Lift that lever, seat the handguard in place, and let the lever return. If I remember correctly, that little release letter locks everything into place. Investigate that some.

Thanks. I did play around with it after reading your advice and eventually things popped into place. The action latch still every so slightly off center. I don't think it's a problem, but I'm going to have someone look at it to make sure.

The release lever on my Citori has never returned exactly to center, either.. I can still see as much as 1/2 of the last 2 digits of the serial number when the gun is fully assembled..

It sounds like you are getting the barrels properly seated.. Sometimes getting the forearm to properly seat can be a trick..

I do this: with the barrels seated and locked closed, put the forearm at about a 30-degree angle to the barrels, and place the small projection on the forearm into the slot in the receiver, and then rotate it parallel to the barrels.. No need to lift the lever on the forearm, it will lift on its own as you seat it.. The lever on mine never snaps closed on its own, sometimes I only need to 'bump' the top of the forearm to get the lever to close, sometimes I need to press it home..

The manual for the Citori is available here:

I hope this helps.. Let us know..

Edit: looks like you got it together.. Good on 'ya..

Your "release lever" is suposed to be to the right, as you double gets worn in ,the lever(top lever) slowly advances to center then beyond. This just means you gun is new or like new.
