Came across a Citori with no stocks rusted shut. taking advice on this little project

Yes soaking it has helped already can tell what it is by engraving .It has helped alot

Kroil, if you don't have any, is good penetrating oil.

4-0 (0000) steel wool or bronze wool carefully/gently applied with lots of solvent and oil will help get the surface rust off. The blue may be toast (probably, if rusted shut). It may be recoverable to a degree.

Reason for rusting? (if it was in a fire, I'd not want to shoot it when redone
Great question - when I hear 'no stocks and rusted', I certainly think that it's been fire damaged and the qualities of the metal have to therefore be considered suspect....

Looks like left in barn or shed. All springs still there so do not believe it was a fire. I am in Florida so salt air is bad on metal.Barrels packed with dirt

This sounds more like it. If it was fire damaged and subjected to high enough heat to hurt the metal, the barrels would have come apart where they are soldered together. I'm assuming they are soldered, don't know if theres a more modern way. Hot bluing can make older soft soldered shotguns come apart, and that's not hot enough to hurt the metal.

Barrels are solid. Lever starting to loosen up safety is free Maybe by Thanksgiving I will have a shotgun.

Not sure were talking about the same thing regarding the barrels, or I'm mistaken on how newer ones are made. Usually, in double shotguns, 2 separate barrels are made, then soldered together with parts along the seams, and a rib soldered on top. Sometimes a separate receiver block is added in various ways where the hinge and locking parts are.

the rib on top the piece in between all solid I have had fire guns before .Even the small flat spring for safety is fine it now is working. It is a slow process soaking and working moving parts a little each day.
